What Our Lady said in Medjugorje on television

Message dated December 8, 1981
In addition to food, it would be good to give up television, because after watching television programs, you are distracted and you cannot pray. You could also give up alcohol, cigarettes and other pleasures. You know for yourself what you should do.

Message dated October 30, 1983
Why don't you abandon yourself to me? I know you pray for a long time, but truly and completely surrender to me. Entrust your concerns to Jesus. Listen to what he says to you in the Gospel: "Who among you, however busy he is, can add one hour to his life?" Also pray in the evening, at the end of your day. Sit in your room and say thank you to Jesus. If you watch television for a long time and read the newspapers in the evening, your head will be filled only with news and many other things that take away your peace. You will fall asleep distracted and in the morning you will feel nervous and you will not feel like praying. And in this way there is no more place for me and for Jesus in your hearts. On the other hand, if in the evening you fall asleep in peace and praying, in the morning you will wake up with your heart turned to Jesus and you can continue to pray to him in peace.

Turn off the televisions and radios, and follow God's program: meditation, prayer, reading the Gospels. Get ready for Christmas with faith! Then you will understand what love is, and your life will be full of joy.

Some passages from the Bible that can help us understand this message.
Tobias 12,8-12
Good thing is prayer with fasting and almsgiving with justice. Better the little with justice than wealth with injustice. It is better to give alms than to put aside gold. Begging saves from death and purifies from all sin. Those who give alms will enjoy long life. Those who commit sin and injustice are enemies of their lives. I want to show you the whole truth, without hiding anything: I have already taught you that it is good to hide the king's secret, while it is glorious to reveal the works of God. Know therefore that, when you and Sara were in prayer, I would present the witness of your prayer before the glory of the Lord. So even when you buried the dead.
Proverbs 15,25-33
The Lord tears down the house of the proud and makes the widow's boundaries firm. Evil thoughts are abominable to the Lord, but benevolent words are appreciated. Whoever is greedy for dishonest earnings upsets his home; but whoever detests gifts will live. The mind of the righteous meditates before answering, the mouth of the wicked expresses wickedness. The Lord is far from the wicked, but he listens to the prayers of the righteous. A luminous look gladdens the heart; happy news revives the bones. The ear that listens to a salutary rebuke will have its home in the midst of the wise. Whoever refuses the correction despises himself, who listens to the rebuke acquires sense. Fear of God is a school of wisdom, before glory there is humility.
1 Chronicles 22,7-13
David said to Solomon: “My son, I had decided to build a temple in the name of the Lord my God. But this word of the Lord was addressed to me: You have shed too much blood and made great wars; therefore you will not build the temple in my name, because you have spilled too much blood on the earth before me. Behold, a son will be born to you, who will be a man of peace; I will grant him peace of mind from all his enemies around him. He will be called Solomon. In his days I will grant peace and tranquility to Israel. He will build a temple to my name; he will be son to me and I will be father to him. I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever. Now, my son, the Lord be with you so that you will be able to build a temple to the Lord your God, as he promised you. Well, the Lord grant you wisdom and intelligence, make yourself king of Israel to observe the law of the Lord your God. Of course you will succeed, if you try to practice the statutes and decrees that the Lord has prescribed to Moses for Israel. Be strong, courage; don't be afraid and don't get down.
Sirach 14,1-10
Blessed is the man who has not sinned with words and is not tormented by the remorse of sins. Blessed is he who has nothing to reproach himself and who has not lost his hope. Wealth does not suit a narrow man, what good is the use of a stingy man? Those who accumulate by deprivation accumulate for others, with their goods the strangers will celebrate. Who is bad with himself with whom will he show himself good? He cannot enjoy his wealth. Nobody is worse than someone who torments himself; this is the reward for his malice. If it does good, it does so by distraction; but in the end he will show his malice. The man with the envious eye is evil; he turns his gaze elsewhere and despises the life of others. The eye of the miser is not satisfied with a part, the insane greed dries up his soul. An evil eye is also envious of bread and is missing from its table.
