Rai one: "In his image" speaks of Syracuse and Mary's tears

(Syracuse, Basilica Santuario Madonna delle Lacrime. Inside there is the Madonnina which teared real tears from 29 August to 1 September 1953).

In the well-known Rai broadcast, an "A sua immagine" conducted by Lorena Bianchetti made an episode on Syracuse and Maria's tears. Throughout the episode made on Saturday they transmitted the various mysteries of the mother of God that took place in that period in Sicily. A really beautiful story is that of the Madonna where in a humble house of a young couple Angelo Iannuso and Antonina Giusto, in via degli Orti di S. Giorgio, n. 11, shed human tears.

We can say that the tears came from a plaster painting depicting the image of the face of the Madonna. These tears occurred for two consecutive days until then the picture was taken over by four university professors and doctors who after careful analysis found that the picture really cried human tears.

Lorena Bianchetti in her broadcast "A sua Immagine" on Rai Uno told the story of Maria and her tears in Syracuse. The beautiful Sicilian experience does not stop only at the fact of tearing but then there were many healings and miracles that occurred at that episode. In particular the healings of Anna Vassallo (tumor), of Enza Moncada (paralysis), of Giovanni Tarascio (paralysis).

The tears were analyzed by Dr. Michele Cassola who we can say declared atheist at the time of the episode. The doctor could not deny that the tears were human but remained for years in his belief as an atheist. Then at the time of death after twenty years the doctor asked for the picture of the Madonna and embraced her to die sweetly in the hands of Maria.

Lorena Bianchetti spoke in this broadcast as guests including Fausto Migneco, professor of ecclesiastical cultural heritage; Patrizia Bisicchia, tour operator and Rosalba Panvini; superintendent of cultural and environmental heritage.

After the fact of tearing, all the bishops of Sicily gathered and all together after analyzing photos, videos and testimonies, they declared that the tearing of the painting cannot be questioned.

At the time, Pope John Paul II also wanted to go to Syracuse to visit Maria. A truly exciting visit where the Pope paused in prayer in front of the painting for twenty minutes and then in the speech he said that Mary's tears are tears of pain for all her children here who do not want to listen to the teaching of Jesus Christ and for the evils that cause the whole world.

We thank Lorena Bianchetti, Rai Uno and the program "A sua immagine" for letting us know the beautiful story of Maria and her tears. We follow this broadcast where many men of faith intervene and send us beautiful meditations and episodes of Christianity.
