Reflect today on this exceptionally glorious calling given to you to be Christ for another

“The harvest is abundant but the workers are few; then ask the master of the harvest to send laborers for his harvest “. Matthew 9: 37–38

What does God want from you? what is your mission? Some fervent Christians may dream of becoming a popular evangelist. Some may dream of performing heroic acts of charity that are praised by all. And others may wish to live a very quiet and hidden life of faith, close to family and friends. But what does God want from YOU?

In the above passage, Jesus exhorts his disciples to pray for "workers for his harvest". You can be sure that you are among the "workers" our Lord speaks of. It is easy to think that this mission is for others, as full-time priests, religious and lay evangelists. It's easy for many to conclude that they don't have much to offer. But nothing could be further from the truth.

God wants to use you in exceptionally glorious ways. Yes, "exceptionally glorious!" Of course, that doesn't mean you'll be the next most popular YouTube evangelist or step into the spotlight like St. Mother Teresa did. But the work God wants from you is as real and as important as any of the greatest saints of antiquity or who are alive today.

Holiness of life is discovered in prayer but also in action. As you pray each day and draw near to Christ, He will exhort you to "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons" (Matthew 10: 8) as today's Gospel continues. But He will call you to do it in a unique way within your vocation. Your daily duty must not be ignored. So who are in your daily encounters those who are sick, dead, lepers and possessed? They are most likely all around you, one way or another. Let's take, for example, those who are "lepers". These are the ones who are the "waste" of society. Our world can be harsh and cruel, and some may feel lost and alone. Who do you know that could fall into this category? Who needs some encouragement, understanding and compassion? God has given you a daily duty that He has not given to another and, for that reason, there are some who need your love. Seek them, reach them, share Christ with them, be there for them.

Reflect today on this exceptionally glorious calling given to you to be Christ for another. Embrace this duty of love. Consider yourself called to be a worker of Christ and committed to the full and glorious fulfillment of this mission, regardless of how it is to be lived in your life.

My dear Lord, I commit myself to your divine mission. I choose you and your holy will for my life. Send me, dear Lord, to those who most need your love and mercy. Help me know how I can bring that love and mercy to those who have been entrusted to me so that they experience Your glorious and saving grace in their lives. Jesus I believe in you.
