Reflect, today, on this image of the Gospel "the leaven that makes the dough rise"

Again he said: “To what shall I compare the Kingdom of God? It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch of dough leavened. Luke 13: 20-21

Yeast is a fascinating thing. It is so small in size and yet it has such a powerful effect on the dough. Yeast works slowly and somehow miraculously. Gradually the dough rises and transforms. This is always something fascinating for children to watch when they make bread.

This is the ideal way to make the gospel work in our lives. At this moment, the Kingdom of God is first of all alive in our hearts. The conversion of our hearts will seldom take place effectively in one day or one moment. Of course, every day and every moment matters and there are certainly powerful moments of conversion that we can all point to. But the conversion of the heart is more like the yeast that makes the dough rise. Conversion of the heart is usually something that happens little by little and step by step. We allow the Holy Spirit to take control of our lives ever deeper and, as we do so, we become deeper and deeper in holiness just as the dough rises slowly but surely.

Reflect today on this image of the yeast that makes the dough rise. Do you see it as an image of your soul? Do you see the Holy Spirit acting on you little by little? Do you see yourself changing slowly but constantly? Hopefully, the answer is "Yes". Although conversion may not always happen overnight, it must be constant so as to allow the soul to progress towards that place prepared for it by God.

Lord, I really want to become a saint. I want to transform myself little by little every day. Help me allow you to change me every moment of my life so that I can continually walk the path you have traced for me. Jesus I believe in you.
