Reflect today on the fact that God is speaking in the depths of your soul every day

“What I tell you, I say to everyone: 'Watch!'” Mark 13:37

Are you attentive to Christ? While this is a deeply important question, there are many who may not even fully understand what it means. Yes, on the surface it is clear: to be "attentive" means to be aware of the presence of our Lord in your life and in the world around you. So are you careful? Are you alert? Are you watching, seeking, awaiting, anticipating and preparing for the coming of Christ? Although Jesus came to Earth over 2000 years ago in the form of a child, He continues to come to us today. And if you are not daily aware of His deep presence, then you may already be a bit asleep, spiritually speaking.

We spiritually "fall asleep" whenever we turn our inner eyes to the passing, irrelevant, and even sinful things of this world. When that happens, we can no longer see Christ himself. Unfortunately, this is becoming easier and easier to do. Violence, disease, hatred, division, scandal and the like plague us day after day. The daily media are competing to present us with the most shocking and sensational news possible. Social media tries daily to fill our short attention span with sonic bites and images that satisfy only for a moment. As a result, the eyes of our soul, our inner vision of faith, are obscured, ignored, forgotten and dismissed. As a result, many in our world today seem unable to cut through the growing chaotic noise in order to hear the gentle, clear and deep voice of the Savior of the world.

As we begin our Advent season, our Lord is speaking to you in the deepest depths of your soul. He's kindly saying, "Wake up." "Listen." "Clock." He will not scream, he will whisper so that you have to give him your full attention. You see it? Do you feel it? Listen to it? You understand it? Do you know his voice? Or are the many voices around you taking you away from the profound, profound and transforming truths that He wishes to communicate to you?

Reflect today on the fact that God is speaking in the depths of your soul every day. He's talking to you now. And what he says is all that really matters in life. Advent is a time, more than any other, to renew one's commitment to listen, be attentive and respond. Don't stay asleep. Wake up and be diligently attentive to the deep voice of our Lord.

Come, Lord Jesus! To come! May this Advent be a time of profound renewal in my life, dear Lord. May it be a time when I strive with all my heart to seek out Your gentle and deep voice. Give me the grace, dear Lord, to get away from the many noises of the world that compete for my attention and to turn only to You and to everything you want to say. Come, Lord Jesus, come deeper into my life during this time of Advent. Jesus I believe in you.
