Reflect today on the glorious and almighty God

Raising his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying: “I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, like you, Father, you are in me and I in you, so that also they are in us, so that the world may believe that you sent me. " John 17: 20-21

"Rolling your eyes ..." What a fantastic phrase!

As Jesus rolled his eyes, he prayed to his heavenly Father. This act, raising one's eyes, reveals a unique aspect of the presence of the Father. Reveal that the Father is transcendent. "Transcendent" means that the Father is above all and above all things. The world cannot contain it. Then, speaking with the Father, Jesus begins with this gesture with which he recognizes the transcendence of the Father.

But we must also note the imminence of the Father's relationship with Jesus. By "imminence" we mean that the Father and Jesus are united as one. Their relationship is deeply personal in nature.

Although these two words, "imminence" and "transcendence", may not be part of our daily vocabulary, it is worth understanding and reflecting the concepts. We must strive to know their meanings very well and, more specifically, the way in which our relationship with the Holy Trinity shares both.

Jesus' prayer to the Father was that we who come to believe will share the unity of the Father and the Son. We will share the life and love of God. For us, this means that we begin by seeing the transcendence of God. We also raise our eyes to Heaven and strive to see the splendor, glory, greatness, power and majesty of God It is above all and above all things.

As we carry out this prayerful gaze to Heaven, we must also strive to see this glorious and transcendent God descending into our souls, communicating, loving and establishing a deeply personal relationship with us. It is surprising how these two aspects of God's life go so well together even though they may seem opposite in the beginning. They do not oppose but, rather, they are united and have the effect of dragging us into an intimate relationship with the Creator and supporter of all things.

Reflect today on the glorious and almighty God of the Universe who descends into the secret depths of your soul. Recognize his presence, worship him while he lives in you, talk to him and love him.

Lord, help me to always raise my eyes to Heaven in prayer. I would like to constantly turn to you and your father. In that prayer look, I can also find you alive in my soul where you are adored and loved. Jesus I believe in you.
