Reflect on your baptism and rebirth to the Holy Spirit

"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God." John 3: 5

Were you born again? This is a common question among many evangelical Christians. But it is a question that we should also ask ourselves. You too? And what exactly does it mean?

We hope that each of us answers this question with a sincere "Yes!" The scriptures clearly indicate that we must receive a new birth in Christ. The old self must die and the new self must be reborn. This is what it means to become a Christian. Let's take on a new life in Christ.

Rebirth takes place by means of water and the Holy Spirit. It happens in baptism. When we are baptized we enter the waters and die with Christ. As we rise from the waters, we are reborn in Him. This means that baptism does something truly extraordinary in us. It means that, as a result of our baptism, we are adopted into the life of the Holy Trinity itself. Baptism, for most of us, happened when we were babies. It's one of those things we don't think about very often. But we should.

Baptism is a sacrament that has a continuous and eternal effect in our life. Implore an indelible character on our souls. This "character" is a constant source of grace in our lives. It is like a well of grace that never dries up. From this well we are constantly nourished and renewed to live the dignity that we are called to live. From this well we are given the grace we need to live as our Heavenly Father's sons and daughters.

Reflect today on your baptism. Easter is a time more than ever when we are called to renew this sacrament. Holy water is a good way to do just that. Perhaps the next time you are in church it would be good to consciously remember your baptism and the dignity and grace that has been given to you through this sacrament, making a sign of the cross on your forehead with holy water. Baptism has turned you into a new creation. Try to understand and live that new life that was given to you during this Easter season.

Heavenly Father, I renew my baptism today. I renounce sin forever and profess my faith in Christ Jesus, your Son. Give me the grace I need to live the dignity to which I have been called. Jesus I believe in you.
