Saint Richard, Saint of February 7, prayer

On February 7, the Church commemorates Saint Richard.

On February 7, the 'Roman Martyrology' recalls the figure of San Riccardo, presumed king of the Saxons, who died in Lucca in 722 while on a pilgrimage to Roma.

According to tradition, he was the father of at least four other saints, including the legendary virgin Walpurgis, which gives its name to the famous 'Night of the witches', two of which, Willibald e Vunibaldo, accompanied him on his last journey.

Prayer to St. Richard

St. Richard, humble son of the Church,
young man in love with Christ,
attentive and helpful doctor,
religious happy in offering himself,
today I turn to you with confidence,
with the simplicity and confidence of your sick people.
I ask you to intercede for me and for loved ones:
help us to grow in faith, which is nourished by prayer,
in the hope, which never fails,
in charity, which transforms the world.
Teach me to walk, like you did,
following and loving the Lord,
under the serene gaze of Mary, his and our mother,
bearing witness to the joy of the Gospel,
without being ashamed of my faith.
Obtain me from the heart of Jesus
the grace that I humbly invoke,
never allow me to stray from friendship with Christ,
until the day we all meet
in the full light of the sky.
Amen.
