Saint Verdiana and divine Providence: how to imitate her in faith

SANTA VERDIANA AND DIVINE PROVIDENCE
On 1 February the church celebrates Santa Verdiana who was born in Castelfiorentino in 1182. She dedicates her childhood to prayer and abstinence. During her tenure as administrator for a wealthy uncle, Verdiana often took the opportunity to give what lay in the warehouses to the poor. In one of these circumstances, the alimony that a buyer was waiting for was missing. Saint Verdiana prayed to him
uncle to be patient for a day. This assignment was given as an opportunity to exercise charity, so much so that sometimes providence had to intervene to miraculously replace the goods she stole from the warehouse and donated to the poor. After two long pilgrimages, Santa Verdiana, returning to Castelfiorentino, felt a strong desire for solitude and penance. Some faithful, in order not to make her leave the town, built a cell for her at the oratory of Sant'Antonio, on the banks of the Elsa river and there she remained a recluse for 34 years, receiving the only contact with the world from a small window. scarce food on which he ate and from where he could attend the Holy Mass receiving communion.
It is said that in the last years of her life she was plagued by the presence of two snakes whose presence she never revealed. He died on February 1, 1242
