Angela was born on 21 March 1474 in Desenzano del Garda. She is the eldest daughter of a wealthy family, but little is known about her childhood and youth. During her adolescence, she Angela he loses both his parents and his sister. These painful events lead her to make the decision to dedicate herself to God and live a religious life, but without entering any convent.

In 1524, Angela is still a lay person and moves to Brescia, a nearby city, to help a sick relative. Here, she witnesses the difficulties facing her young Italian girls they face due to lack of religious education and ignorance of their duties.

He therefore decides to take steps to improve the situation. He brings together a group of women with whom he shares his vision and together they establish a lay association called "The girls of the Good Death”. The main objective of the association is to educate girls and promote spiritual life.

Ursulines

As time passes, Angela's group begins to increase and turns into a religious community. In 1535, it was officially recognized by Church Catholic as a female religious order called “Ursulines".

Saint Angela Merici dedicated much of her life to practicing charity among the needy. He died on January 27, 1540 and was canonized in 1807 by Pope Pius VII.
