Saint of November 3, San Martino de Porres, history and prayer

Tomorrow, Wednesday 24 November 2021, the Church commemorates San Martin de Porres.

Illegitimate son of a Spanish knight and a black slave, Martino de Porres is the one who receives and advises the Viceroy of Spain, but makes him wait outside the door if he is treating a poor man.

This is the most immediate portrait of a holy symbol of South America, who was able to overcome the diffidence of the time and teach that all men are brothers and the different skin colors - or the variety of ethnic groups - do not represent an imperfection, but a great wealth.

Born from Panamanian Anna Velasquez in 1579 in San Sebastiano in Lima - Peru - Martino is a mystic, gifted with extraordinary charisms such as ecstasy, prophecies, and the ability to communicate with animals (which instinctively turn to him to be treated for wounds and diseases), although he never left Lima, he will be seen in Africa, Japan and China to comfort missionaries in difficulty. He died of typhus on November 3, 1639, at the age of sixty. Proclaimed Saint by John XXIII, it is today Patron saint of barbers and hairdressers.

PRAYER

O glorious San Martino de Porres, with the soul inundated with serene trust, we invoke you remembering your inflamed charity benefactor of all social classes; to you meek and humble of heart, we present our wishes. Pour the sweet gifts of your prompt and generous intercession on families; open to the peoples of every race and color, the path of unity and justice; ask the Father who is in heaven the coming of His Kingdom; so that humanity in mutual benevolence, founded on brotherhood in God, increases the fruits of grace and deserves the prize of glory.
