Saint of the day: 09 JULY SANTA VERONICA GIULIANI

SAINT VERONICA GIULIANI

Mercatello, Urbino, 27 December 1660 - Città di Castello, 9 July 1727

He was born in Mercatello, in the Duchy of Urbino, the last daughter of Francesco Giuliani and Benedetta Mancini. The couple had had seven daughters, among whom Orsola and two of his sisters underwent monastic life. The mother died when she was only seven years old. She entered the order of the Capuchin Poor Clares in 1677 at the age of 17, changing the name from Orsola to Veronica to remember the Passion of Jesus. In 1716 she became abbess of the monastery of Città di Castello. He wrote a diary, The Hidden Treasure, published posthumously (the best known edition is the one edited by Pietro Pizzicaria of 1895), in which he recounts his own mystical experience. It is considered among the most important contemplative-penitents that the western world has had.

PRAYER TO SANTA VERONICA GIULIANI

From the throne of glory where you were sublimated, our lovable Saint Veronica, for the flatness of merits, deign to listen to the humble and fervent prayer which, gripped by tribulation, we address to you. The divine Bridegroom whom you loved so much and for whom you suffered so much will hear only one heartbeat of your heart that so many times approached His and a simple gesture of your hand, like His, wounded by the stigmata of passion. You tell the Lord the great needs of our soul, so often arid, tempted and indolent. Say what worries us at this moment ... Say to him as one day: "Lord, with your own wounds I invoke you; with your own love; if the requested graces will increase your love in those who await it, listen to me, oh Lord, grant me, oh Lord ". O dear Saint, true image of the Crucified One, your prayer will not be disappointed, and we, once again, will be able to bless your name and your suffering that gave you so much light of glory and so much power of intercession.

3 Fathers, Aves, Glory.
