Sant'Orsola, its history and the prayer to have His Grace

In the first thousand years of Christian history, Saint Ursula is perhaps the best known and most loved saint. Invoked to obtain a happy marriage, it is in fact the protagonist of a legend that met incredible favor throughout the Middle Ages, and will be represented by a great painter such as Vittore Carpaccio.

The legend of Orsola - or Ursula -, virgin and martyr along with 11.000 other castes companions, originates from an inscription dating back to the 3th century which certifies the construction in Cologne, the city of which she is patroness, of a church in honor of some martyrs. and local virgins. According to one of the most widespread legends, Ursula - daughter of a British king - famous for beauty and piety, but above all very determined to consecrate her virginity, would have tried to remove the marriage proposal of a pagan prince, obtaining a XNUMX-year extension. during which the betrothed should have learned the Christian faith.
