Will I need the Green Pass to go to Mass or Processions? The response of the CEI

From tomorrow, Friday 6 August, it will shoot the obligation of the Green Pass to access some activities. In church, however, it will not be necessary to carry vaccination certification with you to participate in Masses and Processions.

La Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI), in fact, sent a letter to the bishops and parishes with an "information sheet" to adapt to the new rules, with the aim of "informing and guiding the life of the communities in the coming months", based on the latest innovations introduced by the government with the decree of 23 July last.

The CEI card states that the green pass will not be required to participate in the liturgical celebrations but the observance of the known rules will remain mandatory: use of protective masks, distance between the desks, communion only in the hand, no exchange of peace with a handshake, empty holy water fonts.

No green pass even for the processions but there will be an obligation to wear a mask and to maintain an interpersonal distance of two meters for those who sing and 1,5 meters for all the other faithful. The main recommendation is to avoid crowds.

The CEI also underlined “that the Green pass is not necessary for people involved in the parish summer centers (summer oratories, Cre, Grest, etc…), even if meals are eaten during them”.

The Green Pass, however, must be shown by those who enter the parish bars to consume at the table inside a room, who attend performances, events or sports competitions, who visit sacred art museums or exhibitions, who use the internal structures of the oratory, which frequent cultural or recreational centers within the walls of a building.

Finally, the CEI added that anyone under the age of 12 is exempt from the Green pass.
