Lord, teach us to pray

How did you learn to pray? When we stop to think about it, we probably come to this conclusion: our loved ones have shown us how to pray. We may have learned from them by praying with them, asking questions about prayer, or listening to sermons about prayer.

Jesus' disciples wanted to learn how to pray. One day a follower of Jesus asked him: “Lord, teach us to pray. . . "(Luke 11: 1). And Jesus answered with a short, easy-to-learn prayer that has become known as the Lord's Prayer. This beautiful prayer has become a favorite of Jesus' followers over the centuries.

The Lord's Prayer is a model for one of the most meaningful things we do as Christians: pray. When we pray, we recognize our total dependence on God as our Heavenly Father, our thanksgiving to God, and our calling to love and serve God in all areas of our life.

This month's devotions are about prayer in general and the Lord's prayer in particular.

We pray that this month's focus on prayer will arouse in each of us a deep commitment and passion to communicate with our Heavenly Father and to love and serve him every day. As you read this article today, may it be refreshed, refocused and renewed in God's Word!

I bless you Holy Father for every gift you have given me, free me from all discouragement and make me attentive to the needs of others. I ask your forgiveness if at times I have not been faithful to you, but you accept my forgiveness and grant me the grace to live your friendship. I live only by trusting in you, please give me the Holy Spirit to abandon me only to you.

Blessed be your holy name, blessed are you in heaven who are glorious and holy. Please holy father, accept my plea that I address to you today, I who am a sinner turn to you to ask for the longed-for grace (to name a grace that you want). Your son Jesus who said “ask and you will receive” I beg you hear me and free me from this evil that so anguishes me. I place all my life in your hands and I place all my trust in you, you who are my heavenly father and do so much good to your children.
