“Only God came to our aid”, the story of Sitara, a persecuted Christian

In India, since he lost his parents, Sitara - pseudonym - 21 years old, she takes care of her brother and sister on her own. There are days when food is so scarce that they go to bed hungry. But Sitara continues to trust the Lord: whatever the situation, he knows that God will come to his aid.

“I met the Lord as a teenager and have never looked back ever since!” He explained.

He told how it went from Jesus: “Our mother was paralyzed when we were little. Someone then suggested taking her to a church where Christians would pray for her. My mother stayed on the church premises for nearly a year. Every day people came to pray for her, and on Sundays all the members of the church interceded for her healing. Soon after, his health improved. But it didn't last and it died ”.

“His body was brought back to the village, but the villagers did not allow us to cremate him in the cemetery. They insulted us and called us traitors: 'You have become Christians. Take her back to the church and bury her there! '”.

“We finally buried her in our fields with the help of some believers”.

Sitara's father was upset, he hoping that his wife would be healed through prayer… And now his family has been completely rejected from his community due to ties to the church! He was furious and blamed Sitara for what had happened, going so far as to order his children never to come into contact with Christians again.

But Sitara did not obey him: “Even though my mother did not survive her illness, I knew that God was alive. I had tasted his love for me and I knew he was filling the void that nothing else could fill ”.

Sitara continued to secretly attend church with his brother and sister: “Whenever my father found out, we were beaten, in front of all our neighbors. And that day we were deprived of dinner, ”he recalled.

Then, 6 years ago, Sitara and her brothers faced the biggest challenge of their life… Their father was returning from the market when he suffered a cardiac arrest and died instantly. Sitara was only 15 at the time, her brother 9 and her sister 2.

The community did not show empathy for the 3 orphans: “The villagers, hostile, accused our Christian faith of being responsible for what happened in our life. They refused to have our father buried in the village crematorium. Some Christian families helped us bury our father in our fields, next to our mother. But none of the villagers had a single kind word for us! ”.

Sitara summarizes her life in one sentence: "Only God has come to our aid all the time, and He still does, even today!".

Despite her young age and the trials she has gone through, Sitara is full of faith. He thanks the partners of Open Doors with whom he has been in constant contact for 2 years and declares with confidence: “Thank you very much for encouraging us. We know that God is our Father and that whenever we need something, we pray and he answers us. We felt his presence even in the worst circumstances ”.
