The 5 fake news on Medjugorje

Aleteia is documenting you on Medjugorje always referring to official acts of the Church, which are also being examined by the scientific community. Yet on the web and social networks a series of hoaxes, false and biased news, which are found in the so-called "chains" continue to circulate.

We invite you not to believe news such as those that we report below, as sensational fake news.

1) The arrest of Mirjana

A few years ago the alleged news of the arrest of the visionary Mirjana circulated, even taken up by Il Giornale. Among the blogs that had spread the news, "The political observer" or "Lavocea5stelle.altervista.org", then blacked out. Beware because this hoax still circulates in some chains:

“Medjugorje, suspicions about the seer. Trafficking in precautionary detention. Heavy accusations: aggravated fraud, abusive, circumvention of incapable, consumption and sale of LSD. The arrest took place during one of his "sacred rites" and therefore in the act of crime.

Scoop di Chi: the Madonna who lit up in the woman's house, perhaps covered in phosphorescent paint

It all started with a letter sent by the bishop of Anagni and Alatri, Lorenzo Loppa. A "circular to parish priests" in which in fact he asks to cancel a prayer meeting, scheduled (...) in Fiuggi "(bufala.net).

2) The 3 Hail Marys of Ivan

Every time there are outbreaks of war in the world, this false message of Our Lady of Medjugorje is repeated, which was delivered to the visionary Ivan Dragicevic. This message is nothing more than a hoax, artfully circulated through the prayer chains.

“Ivan, one of the visionaries of Medjugorje, communicates this urgent message from Our Lady! The war in the Middle East is about to turn into something very serious! And it will extend across the world! X stop her, the whole world must pray every minute! And immediately! Priests must open the doors of their churches and invite people to pray the Rosary! And pray intensely! Pray! Pray! Pray!

Every day, at half past six, wherever you are in the world, leave everything and pray three Hail Marys !!! Send this sms all over the world, but above all put it into practice !!!! I receive and retransmit ".

3) The fake Eucharistic miracle

The alleged Eucharistic miracle that took place a few years ago in Medjugorje is fake news. A depopulated image on social networks shows the monstrance with the Eucharist, and behind it the face of the parish priest Marinko Sakota.

In the foreground part, on the host, the face of Jesus emerges in a nuanced way. There was also a rumor that the parish priest, seers and Sister Emmanuel had approved the presence of this sign. A tam tam that will not have escaped many of you, regular Whatsapp patrons.

In fact, it turned out, it was all a fake. The image was artfully edited through programs such as Photoshop. A real cheat, a deception that led even the most skeptical to have, initially, some doubts.

Sister Emmanuel commented on the “hoax”: «Let us refrain from spreading images and information of which we ignore the origin! Medjugorje does not need false advertising "(today.it).

4) The angel of Thailand

Keep circulating and discussing the story of the angel's apparition in the clouds in the village of Medjugorje.

The photo is posted cyclically on Facebook, although it represents a shot taken by Isres Chorphaka who captured the image in Thailand. The photographer has already told how he took the photo, and whether it is a divine manifestation or not, the image has gone around the world, and it is very easy to puff.

In fact, you can find it on many sites, with the exact place where it was taken: the Grand Palace of Bangkok. It is therefore the usual "recycling" of a real photo to attract views.

5) The oddities of the Sun

Youtube hosts an archive of millions of views on alleged mysterious phenomena that occurred in the skies of Medjugorje. In particular, strange rotations and movements of the sun and clouds in the presence of Jesus or the Madonna.

Beyond the suggestion that videos like the one we post can bring, in some cases they are effects created specifically with professional cameras or smartphones.
