Is there still a ban on funerals in the event of suicide?

In these cases, the Church recognizes that mental illness can affect the freedom and responsibility of the deceased.

In general, the Church recommends treating eachi situation individually and to seek God's will in the life of the deceased. A request may be madeto evaluation by a mental health professional to determine whether the person was capable of making free and informed decisions about suicide.

In many dioceses, bishops offer guidelines and pastoral provisions specifications to deal with this type of situation. In some circumstances, it might to allow the funeral if it is believed that the person was not fully aware of his actions or if he was suffering from a serious mental illness.
