Is there water in hell? The clarification of an exorcist

Below is the translation of a very interesting post, published on Catholicexorcism.org.

I was recently questioned about the effectiveness ofHoly water in an exorcism. The idea was met with disbelief. Perhaps it seemed like a 'superstition'.

There is no water in hell. Water is a necessary source of life. In hell there is only death. Perhaps this is why it is said that demons live in the desert (Lv 16,10; Is 13,21; Is 34,14; Tb 8,3). It is dry, sterile and lifeless.

The New Testament testifies to the waterless nature of hell. “Standing in hell amidst torments, he raised his eyes and saw in the distance Abraham and Lazarus beside him. 24 Then crying out he said: Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip his fingertip in water and wet my tongue, because this flame tortures me ”. (Lk 16,23-24). He prayed for some water but, in hell, he couldn't have any.

At the beginning of his ministry, Jesus went into the desert, not only to be alone and pray, but also to face and overcome Satan (Lk 4,1: 13-XNUMX). Exorcising Satan was, and remains, an essential part of Jesus' mission to inaugurate the Kingdom.

Likewise, the first monks in the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries went to the desert in Egyptin Palestine and Syria to engage in spiritual warfare and defeat the devil, just as Jesus did. The desert is a place of solitude and is also an intense abode of demons.

Water is an essential element in baptism to cast out the influence of Satan and introduce the sanctifying grace of God. Likewise, holy water is used to cast out demons in the Rite of Exorcism. The new Rite of Exorcism adequately reflects the baptismal rite.

Water is naturally repugnant to demons. But when it is blessed by a priest, it becomes a source of grace on a supernatural level. The Church has the power and authority, given by Christ, to pardon such sacramentals. These include blessed crucifixes, blessed salt and oil, blessed religious statues, and many more.

One of the lessons I have learned after doing years of exorcisms is how much demons hate the Church and try to destroy it. And I often experience how powerful the Church is through the living presence of Christ in her: "The gates of hell will not prevail over her" (Mt 16,18:XNUMX).

A little water blessed by a priest doesn't seem like much. But when he touches the demons, they scream in agony. When it touches the faithful, they receive God's blessing ”.
