The memory of the Apostolic Letter "Rosarium Virginis Mariae", with which John Paul II, on 16 October 2002, again encouraged Christianity to resort to this prayer, so warmly recommended by all the last popes and by last Marian apparitions. On the contrary, to make more complete what was previously defined by Paul VI as "compendium of the whole Gospel", he added the "mysteries of light": five mysteries concerning the public life of Jesus. We know well how Padre Pio called the crown: the weapon. Extraordinary weapon against Satan. One day an exorcist colleague of mine heard the devil say: “Each Ave is like a blow to my head; if the Christians knew the power of the Rosary it would be over for me. "
But what is the secret that makes this prayer so effective? It is that the Rosary is both prayer and meditation; prayer addressed to the Father, to the Virgin, to the SS. Trinity; and it is at the same time Christocentric meditation. In fact, as the Holy Father exposes in the Apostolic Letter quoted, the Rosary is contemplative prayer: we remember Christ with Mary, we learn Christ from Mary, we conform to Christ with Mary, we beg Christ with Mary, we announce Christ with Mary .
Today more than ever the world needs to pray and meditate. First of all to pray, because men have forgotten God and without God they are on the verge of a terrible abyss; hence the continuous insistence of Our Lady, in all her Medjugorje messages, on prayer. Without God's help, Satan is won. And there is a need for meditation, because if the great Christian truths are forgotten, the emptiness remains; a void that the enemy knows how to fill. Here then is the spread of superstition and occultism, especially in those three forms so popular today: magic, spirit sessions, satanism. Today's man needs more than ever pauses for silence and reflection. In this smashing world there is a need for prayerful silence. Even in the face of impending war dangers, if we believe in the power of prayer, we are convinced that the Rosary is stronger than the atomic bomb. True, it is a prayer that commits, which takes some time. We, on the other hand, are used to doing things quickly, especially with God ... Perhaps the Rosary warns us against that risk that Jesus signaled to Martha, sister of Lazarus: "You worry about many things, but only one thing is necessary".
We too run the same danger: we worry and worry about many contingent things, often also harmful to the soul, and we forget that the only thing necessary is to live with God. Let the Queen of Peace make us open our eyes first it's too late. What is the most obvious danger to society today? It is the breakdown of the family. The rhythm of the current life has broken the unity of the family: we are not together very much and sometimes, even those few minutes, we don't even talk to each other because the TV thinks to speak.
Where are the families who recite the Rosary in the evening? Already Pius XII insisted on this: "If you pray the Rosary all together you will enjoy peace in your families, you will have the harmony of minds in your homes". "The family that prays together", repeated the American P. Peyton, the tireless apostle of the Rosary in the family, in all the districts of the world. "Satan wants war", Our Lady said one day in Medjugorje. Well, the Rosary is the weapon capable of giving peace to society, to the whole world, because it is a prayer and meditation capable of transforming hearts and overcoming the weapons of the enemy of man.
