A prayer against depression. Your daily prayer of November 29th

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; it will never leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid; don't be discouraged. " - Deuteronomy 31: 8

If you've ever felt trapped, imprisoned or helpless in life, share David's emotions in the middle of life in Adullam's Cave.

Things had gotten so bad that David makes a meaningful confession for us today. In the form of an urgent prayer offered to God and captured for us on paper, David explains that his soul is in prison. The setting is so graphic, watch it with me in I Samuel 22.

David is in the middle of his life on the run, under immense stress in verses 1-4:

“So David set out from there and fled to Adullam's cave. So when his brothers and all his father's house heard him, they went down to him. And all who were in trouble, all who were in debt and all who were discontent gathered to him. So he became captain of them. There were about four hundred men with him. Then David went over to Mizpah of Moab and said to the king of Moab: “Please let my father and my mother come here. with you, until I know what God will do for me. "So he brought them before the king of Moab, and they dwelt with him as long as David was in the stronghold."

David describes this time as when he felt trapped, with nowhere to escape in Psalm 142. Here, in this psalm written from a cave, David reflects on the circumstances surrounding him that made him.

When we get depressed, life really feels like an endless search for nothing. Such daily struggles are far from the expectations of those who heard this kind of promise before becoming a Christian: "Just be saved and everything will be great from that point on!" But that's not always true, is it?

Even saved people can go through emotionally imprisoned times in caves as David lived. The triggers that can emotionally trigger a downward slide are: family conflicts; losing a job; losing a home; moving to a new position under duress; work with a difficult crowd; being betrayed by friends; being wronged in a deal; suffer the sudden loss of a family member, friend or finances and so on.

Suffering from depression is a very common disease. Indeed, although most of the Bible is in a major key (the saints testify fearlessly while the churches serve valiantly against all odds), alongside all those wonderful testimonies is the minor key, where God's Word contains true glimpses of the weaknesses and frailties of some of its greatest saints.

“Heavenly Father, please strengthen our hearts and remind us to encourage one another when life's troubles begin to overwhelm us. Please defend our hearts from depression. Give us the strength to get up every day and fight against the struggles that try to burden us “.
