A prayer for the right words to say

A prayer for the right words to say: “Do you have a minute to talk? I was hoping to get your advice on something… "" Let your conversation always be full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you know how to respond to everyone. " - Colossians 4: 6

When a friend or family member starts our conversation with these words, I send out a desperate prayer. Lord, give me the right words to say! I am grateful when my loved ones feel obligated to come to me. I also wonder what might happen when I open my mouth. I want my words to speak about life with sweetness and truth, but sometimes what I mean comes out completely wrong.

We know it is important to seek God before engaging in a deep conversation. Yet we repeat our words over and over and end up saying something we wish we could take back. Because when we speak without God's words of grace, we risk saying the wrong thing. If we let ourselves be guided by the Spirit, we will know how to respond.

"Let your conversation always be full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you know how to respond to everyone." Colossians 4: 6 NIV

Paul instructed the Colossian church to pray for open doors to share Jesus' message of hope with the world. He also wanted them to remember how they behaved towards non-believers so that they could have the opportunity to connect with them. “Be wise in the way you act towards strangers; make the most of every opportunity "(Colossians 4: 5).

Paul knew that every precious door opened to share the love of Christ would begin with a connection. An opportunity for God-inspired words, spoken in a crowded room or among new friends. He also knew that this ability to say the right words wouldn't come naturally. It could only happen through prayer and the same truth still applies to our lives today.

Let's take a minute to ask ourselves this question. Have my words been seasoned with salt lately? I rely on God to guide my speech or am I conversing with my own strength? Today we can renew our commitment to words full of grace, knowing what to say with sweetness and truth. Let us pray together that God will give us the right words to say in every situation.

Prayer for the right words to say

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for showing me through Holy Scripture how important my words are. I claim Psalm 19:14 as my prayer today, "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart please you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer." Let your Holy Spirit guide my word, Lord. Then I can have peace knowing that your kindness will flow through me as I connect with others.

When I am tempted to engage in a conversation on my own, remind me to keep my words full of grace. (Colossians 4: 6) Help me rely on You instead of wondering if I'm saying the wrong thing. During this day, I will praise you for your goodness and trust your guidance. I will say words that pile up instead of breaking down. I pray that every conversation I have will bring joy and honor to you, God. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
