Apostle Saint Barnabas - Memory

Acts of the Apostles 11,21b-26.13,1-3.
In those days, a large number believed and converted to the Lord.
The news reached the ears of the Church of Jerusalem, which sent Barnabas to Antioch.
When he arrived and saw the grace of the Lord, he rejoiced and,
as a virtuous man as he was and full of the Holy Spirit and faith, he exhorted everyone to persevere with a resolute heart in the Lord. And a considerable crowd was led to the Lord.
Barnabas then left for Tarsus to look for Saul and found him led to Antioch.
They stayed together for a whole year in that community and educated many people; in Antioch for the first time the disciples were called Christians.
There were prophets and doctors in the community of Antioch: Barnabas, Simeon nicknamed Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, childhood companion of Herod Tetrarch, and Saul.
While they were celebrating the worship of the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Reserve Barnabas and Saul for me for the work to which I have called them."
Then, after fasting and praying, they laid their hands on them and said goodbye.

Salmi 98(97),1.2-3ab.3c-4.5-6.
Sing a new song to the Lord,
because he has performed wonders.
His right hand gave him victory
and his holy arm.

The Lord has manifested his salvation,
in the eyes of peoples he has revealed his justice.
He remembered his love,
of his loyalty to the house of Israel.

All the ends of the earth have seen
Acclaim the whole earth to the Lord,
shout, rejoice with songs of joy.
Sing hymns to the Lord with the harp,

with the harp and with melodious sound;
with the trumpet and the sound of the horn
cheer before the king, the Lord.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 10,7-13.
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: «Go, preach that the kingdom of heaven is near.
Heal the sick, raise the dead, heal lepers, drive out demons. For free you have received, for free you give ».
Do not get gold or silver or copper coins in your belts,
neither a travel bag, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor a stick, because the worker has the right to his nourishment.
Whichever city or village you enter, ask if there is any worthy person, and stay there until your departure.
Upon entering the house, greet her.
If that house is worthy of it, let your peace descend upon it; but if it is not worthy of it, your peace will return to you. "
