Gospel of January 12, 2019

First letter of St. John the apostle 5,14-21.
This is the trust we have in him: whatever we ask him according to his will, he listens to us.
And if we know that he listens to us in what we ask him, we know that we already have what we asked him.
If one sees one's brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, pray, and God will give him life; it is meant for those who commit a sin that does not lead to death: in fact there is a sin that leads to death; for this reason I say not to pray.
All iniquity is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.
We know that anyone born of God does not sin: whoever is born of God preserves himself and the evil one does not touch him.
We know that we are from God, while the whole world lies under the power of the evil one.
We also know that the Son of God came and gave us the intelligence to know the true God. And we are in the true God and in his Son Jesus Christ: he is the true God and eternal life.
Children, beware of false gods!

Salmi 149(148),1-2.3-4.5.6a.9b.
Sing a new song to the Lord;
his praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Rejoice Israel in its Creator,
let the sons of Zion rejoice in their king.

Praise his name with dances,
with hymns and lyres sing hymns.
The Lord loves his people,
crown the humble with victory.

Let the faithful exult in glory,
gladly rise from their beds.
The praises of God on their mouth:
this is the glory for all his faithful.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to John 3,22: 30-XNUMX.
After these things, Jesus went with his disciples to the Judea region; and there he stayed with them, and baptized.
John also baptized in Ennòn, near Salìm, because there was a lot of water there; and people went to be baptized.
In fact, Giovanni had not yet been imprisoned.
A discussion then arose between John's disciples and a Jew about purification.
So they went to John and said to him: "Rabbi, the one who was with you on the other side of the Jordan, and to whom you testified, behold he is baptizing and everyone comes to him."
John replied: «No one can take anything unless it was given to him by heaven.
You yourselves are witnesses to me that I said: I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.
Who owns the bride is the groom; but the friend of the groom, who is present and listening to him, rejoices with joy at the groom's voice. Now this joy of mine is complete.
He must grow and I must decrease.
