Gospel of 14 June 2018

Thursday of the XNUMXth week of Ordinary Time

First book of Kings 18,41-46.
In those days, Elijah said to Ahab: "Come on, eat and drink, because I hear the sound of torrential rain."
Ahab went to eat and drink. Elijah went to the top of Carmel; throwing himself to the ground, he put his face between his knees.
Then he said to his boyfriend, "Come here, look towards the sea." He went, looked and said. "There is nothing!". Elijah said, "Come back seven more times."
The seventh time he reported: "Here, a cloud, like a man's hand, rises from the sea". Elijah said to him, "Go and say to Ahab: Attach the horses to the cart and go down so that the rain doesn't surprise you."
Immediately the sky darkened due to the clouds and the wind; the rain poured down. Ahab got into the cart and went to Izreel.
The hand of the Lord was upon Elijah who, girded his hips, ran before Ahab until he reached Izrèel.

Salmi 65(64),10abcd.10e-11.12-13.
You visit the earth and quench it:
fill it with its riches.
The river of God is swollen with water;
you make wheat grow for men.

So prepare the earth:
you furrow the furrows,
level out the clods,
bathe it in the rain

and bless its buds.
Crown the year with your benefits,
abundance pours in your passage.
The desert pastures drift away

and the hills gird themselves with exultation.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 5,20-26.
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: «I tell you: if your righteousness does not exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
You have heard that it was said to the ancients: Do not kill; whoever kills will be tried.
But I say to you: anyone who gets angry with his brother will be judged. Whoever then says to his brother: stupid, will be subjected to the Sanhedrin; and whoever says to him, madman, will be subjected to the fire of Gehenna.
So if you present your offering on the altar and there you remember that your brother has something against you,
leave your gift there before the altar and go first to be reconciled with your brother and then go back to offering your gift.
Quickly agree with your opponent while you are on the way with him, so that the opponent does not hand you over to the judge and the judge to the guard and you are thrown into prison.
Truly, I say to you, you will not go out of there until you have paid the last penny! »
