Gospel of 16 June 2018

Saturday of the XNUMXth week of Ordinary Time

First book of Kings 19,19-21.
In those days, Elijah, descended from the mountain, met Elisha son of Safat. He plowed with twelve pairs of oxen in front of him, while he himself led the tenth second. Elijah, passing by, threw his cloak over him.
He left the oxen and ran after Elijah, saying: "I will go and kiss my father and mother, then I will follow you." Elijah said, "Go and come back, because you know what I have done with you."
Moving away from him, Elisha took a pair of oxen and killed them; with plowing tools he cooked the meat and gave it to the people to eat it. Then he got up and followed Elijah, entering his service.

Salmi 16(15),1-2.5.7-8.9-10.
Protect me, O God: I take refuge in you.
I said to God: "You are my Lord,
without you I have no good. "
The Lord is my part of inheritance and my cup:
my life is in your hands.

I bless the Lord who has given me advice;
even at night my heart teaches me.
I always place the Lord before me,
it's on my right, I can't waver.

My heart rejoices in this, my soul rejoices;
even my body rests safe,
because you will not abandon my life in the sepulcher,
nor will you let your saint see corruption.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 5,33-37.
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: «You also understood that it was said to the ancients: Do not perjury, but fulfill your oaths with the Lord;
but I say to you: do not swear at all: neither for heaven, because it is the throne of God;
nor for the earth, because it is the stool for his feet; nor for Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great king.
Don't even swear by your head, because you don't have the power to make one hair white or black.
Instead, let your speak yes, yes; no, no; the most comes from the evil one ».
