Gospel of 17 July 2018

Tuesday of the XNUMXth week of Ordinary Time

Book of Isaiah 7,1-9.
In the days of Ahaz son of Jotam, son of Ozia, king of Judah, Rezìn king of Aram and Pekach son of Romelia, king of Israel, marched against Jerusalem to wage war on them, but they were unable to conquer it.
So it was announced to the house of David: "The Arameans have encamped in Ephraim." Then his heart and the heart of his people stirred, as the branches of the wood are stirred by the wind.
The Lord said to Isaiah: “Go to Ahaz, you and your son Seariasub, to the end of the channel of the upper pool on the way to the washerman's field.
You will say to him: Pay attention and be quiet, do not be afraid and your heart will not fall for those two leftovers of smoky embers, for the anger of Rezìn degli Aramei and of the son of Romelia.
For the Arameans, Ephraim and the son of Romelia have plotted evil against you, saying:
We go up against Judah, devastate and occupy him, and we will put Tabeel's son as king.
Thus says the Lord God: This will not happen and will not be!
Because the capital of Aram is Damascus and the head of Damascus is Rezìn. Sixty-five more years and Ephraim will cease to be a people.
Capital of Ephraim is Samaria and head of Samaria the son of Romelia. But if you don't believe, you will not have stability ”.

Salmi 48(47),2.3-4.5-6.7-8.
Great is the Lord and worthy of all praise
in the city of our God.
Its holy mountain, a splendid hill,
it is the joy of the whole earth.

Mount Zion, divine home,
it is the city of the great Sovereign.
God in his bulwarks
an impregnable fortress has appeared.

Behold, kings have allied themselves,
they advanced together.
They have seen:
stunned and panicked, they fled.

There she was taken aback,
labor pain as parturient,
similar to the east wind
tearing apart the ships of Tarsis.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 11,20-24.
At that time, Jesus began to rebuke the cities in which he had performed the greatest number of miracles, because they had not converted:
«Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida. Because, if the miracles that were done in your midst had been accomplished in Tire and Sidon, they would have done penance for some time, wrapped in sackcloth and ashes.
Well I tell you: Tire and Sidon on the day of judgment will have a less harsh fate than yours.
And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to heaven? To the underworld you will fall! Because, if the miracles performed in you had occurred in Sodom, today it would still exist!
Well I say to you: On the day of judgment, it will have a less difficult fate than yours! ».
