Gospel of 19 June 2018

Tuesday of the XNUMXth week of Ordinary Time

First book of Kings 21,17-29.
After Naboth died, the Lord said to Elijah the Tisbite:
“Come on, go to Ahab, king of Israel, who lives in Samaria; behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, where he went down to take it.
You will tell him: Thus says the Lord: You have murdered and now you usurp! This is why the Lord says: At the point where they touched the blood of Naboth, the dogs will also touch your blood. "
Ahab said to Elijah, "So you caught me out, O my enemy!" He added: "Yes, because you sold yourself to do what is bad in the eyes of the Lord.
Behold, I will bring a disaster upon you; I will sweep you away. In the house of Ahab I will exterminate every male, slave or free man in Israel.
I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam, son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha, son of Achia, because you irritated me and made Israel sin.
Regarding Jezebel, the Lord says: The dogs will eat Jezebel in the field of Izreèl.
Those of Ahab's family who die in the city will devour dogs; those who die in the countryside will devour the birds of the air. "
In reality no one has ever sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord like Ahab, instigated by his wife Jezebel.
He committed many abominations, following the idols, as the Amorrèis had done, which the Lord had destroyed before the children of Israel.
When he heard these words, Ahab tore his clothes, put on a sack on the flesh and fasted; he lay down with the sack and walked with his head down.
The Lord said to Elijah the Tisbite:
“Have you seen how Ahab humbled himself before me? Since he humbled himself before me, I will not cause the disaster to fall during his life, but I will bring it down to his home during the life of his son. "

Salmi 51(50),3-4.5-6a.11.16.
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your mercy;
in your great goodness erase my sin.
Wash me from all my faults,
cleanse me of my sin.

I recognize my guilt,
my sin is always before me.
Against you, against you alone I have sinned,

Look away from my sins,
erase all my faults.
Deliver me from the blood, God, God my salvation,
my tongue will exalt your justice.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 5,43-48.
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: «You have understood that it was said: You will love your neighbor and you will hate your enemy;
but I say to you: love your enemies and pray for your persecutors,
so that you may be children of your heavenly Father, who makes his sun rise above the wicked and the good, and makes it rain on the righteous and the unjust.
In fact, if you love those who love you, what merit do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do this?
And if you only greet your brothers, what do you do extraordinary? Do not even the pagans do this?
Be perfect therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. »
