Gospel of 2 July 2018

Monday of the XIII week of Ordinary Time holidays

Book of Amos 2,6-10.13-16.
Thus says the Lord: “For three misdeeds of Israel and for four I will not revoke my decree, because they sold the righteous one for money and the poor one for a pair of sandals;
they who trample the head of the poor like the dust of the earth and divert the path of the poor; and father and son go to the same girl, profaning my holy name.
On robes taken as a pledge they lie at each altar and drink the wine confiscated as a fine in the house of their God.
Yet I exterminated before them the Amorreo, whose stature was like that of the cedars, and strength like that of the oak; I tore off its fruit at the top and its roots below.
I brought you out of the country of Egypt and led you to the desert for forty years to give you the land of the Amorreo.
Well, I will sink you into the earth as a cart sinks when it is all loaded with straw.
Then neither the agile man will be able to escape anymore, nor the strong man will use his strength; the brave man cannot save his life
nor will the archer resist; the runner will not escape, nor will the rider be saved.
The bravest of the brave will flee naked on that day! "

Salmi 50(49),16bc-17.18-19.20-21.22-23.

"Because you are repeating my decrees
and you always have my covenant in your mouth,
you who hate discipline
and throw your words behind you?

If you see a thief, run with him;
and of adulterers you make a companion.
Leave your mouth to evil
and your tongue deceives deceptions.

You sit down, talk against your brother,
throw mud against your mother's son.
Did you do this and should I keep quiet?
maybe you thought I was like you!
I reproach you: I put your sins before you.
Understand this you who forget God,

why don't you get angry and nobody save you.
"Whoever offers the sacrifice of praise, he honors me,
to those who walk the right way
I will show the salvation of God. "

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 8,18-22.
At that time, seeing a large crowd around him, Jesus ordered to go to the other bank.
Then a scribe came up and said to him, "Master, I will follow you wherever you go."
Jesus replied, "The foxes have their lairs and the birds of the sky their nests, but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head."
And another of the disciples said to him, "Lord, allow me to go and bury my father first."
But Jesus replied, "Follow me and let the dead bury their dead."
