Gospel of 20 July 2018

Friday of the XNUMXth week of Ordinary Time

Book of Isaiah 38,1-6.21-22.7-8.
In those days Hezekiah became seriously ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and spoke to him: "Says the Lord: Arrange concerning the things of your house, because you will die and you will not heal."
Hezekiah then turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord.
He said, "Lord, remember that I have spent my life before you faithfully and with a sincere heart and have done what was pleasing to your eyes." Hezekiah wept a lot.
Then the word of the Lord was addressed to Isaiah:
“Go and tell Hezekiah: Says the Lord God of your father David: I have heard your prayer and have seen your tears; here I will add fifteen years to your life.
I will free you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; I will protect this city.
Isaiah said, "Take a fig poultice and apply it to the wound, so it will heal."
Hezekiah said, "What is the sign that I will enter the temple?"
On the part of the Lord, let this be a sign that he will keep the promise he made you.
Behold, I am making the shadow on the sundial, which has already gone down with the sun on Ahaz's clock, go back ten degrees ”. And the sun receded ten degrees on the scale it had descended.

Book of Isaiah 38,10.11.12abcd.16.
I said, “In the middle of my life
I go to the gates of the underworld;
I am deprived of the rest of my years ".

I said: “I will never see the Lord again
on the land of the living,
I will never see anyone again
among the inhabitants of this world.

My tent was torn up and thrown away from me,
like a shepherd's tent.
Like a weaver you rolled up my life,
you sever me from the warp.

Lord, my heart hopes in you;
revive my spirit.
Heal me and make my life.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 12,1-8.
At that time, Jesus passed between the masses on the Sabbath day, and his disciples were hungry and began to pick ears and ate them.
Seeing this, the Pharisees said to him, "Behold, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath."
And he said, "Did you not read what David did when he was hungry with his companions?
How did he enter the house of God and ate the loaves of the offering, which was not lawful for him or his companions to eat, but only for priests?
Or have you not read in the Law that on Saturdays the priests in the temple break the Sabbath and yet are without fault?
Now I tell you that there is something greater here than the temple.
If you had understood what it means: Mercy I want and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned individuals without fault.
Because the Son of man is lord of the Sabbath ».
