Gospel of 21 October 2018

Book of Isaiah 53,2.3.10.11.
The Servant of the Lord has grown like a shoot in front of him and like a root in arid land.
Despised and rejected by men, a man of pain who knows well how to suffer, like someone before whom one covers one's face, was despised and we had no respect for him.
But the Lord liked to prostrate him with pain. When he offers himself atonement, he will see a descendant, he will live a long time, the will of the Lord will be accomplished through him.
After his intimate torment he will see the light and be satisfied with his knowledge; my righteous servant will justify many, he will take on their iniquity.

Salmi 33(32),4-5.18-19.20.22.
Right is the word of the Lord
every work is faithful.
He loves law and justice,
the earth is full of his grace.

Behold, the eye of the Lord watches over those who fear him,
on who hopes in his grace,
to free him from death
and feed it in times of starvation.

Our soul awaits the Lord,
he is our help and our shield.
Lord, may your grace be upon us,
because we hope in you.

Letter to the Hebrews 4,14-16.
Brothers, since therefore we have a great high priest who has crossed the heavens, Jesus, Son of God, let us keep firm the profession of our faith.
In fact, we do not have a high priest who does not know how to sympathize with our infirmities, having been tried himself in everything, in the likeness of us, excluding sin.
Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with full confidence, to receive mercy and find grace and be helped at the right moment.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Mark 10,35-45.
At that time, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approached him, saying, "Master, we want you to do what we ask of you."
He said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" They replied:
"Allow us to sit in your glory one on your right and one on your left."
Jesus said to them: «You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I drink, or receive the baptism with which I am baptized? ». They said to him, "We can."
And Jesus said: «The cup that I drink you too will drink, and the baptism that I also receive you will receive.
But sitting on my right or on my left is not for me to grant; it is for those for whom it was prepared. "
Upon hearing this, the other ten became indignant with James and John.
Then Jesus, calling them to himself, said to them: «You know that those who are considered heads of nations dominate them, and their great ones exercise power over them.
But among you it is not so; but whoever wants to be great among you will become your servant,
and whoever wants to be the first among you will be the servant of all.
In fact, the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many ».
