Gospel of 22 June 2018

Second book of Kings 11,1-4.9-18.20.
In those days, Atalia mother of Ahaziah, since her son had died, proposed to exterminate all the royal lineage.
But Ioseba, daughter of King Joram and sister of Ahaziah, took Ioas son of Ahaziah out of the group of the king's sons destined for death and took him with the nurse to the bed room; thus he hid him from Atalia and he was not put to death.
He remained hidden for six years in the temple; meanwhile Atalia reigned over the country.
In the seventh year, Jehoiada summoned the leaders of hundreds of the Karii and the guards and brought them to the temple. He made a covenant with them, making them swear in the temple; then he showed them the king's son.
The leaders of hundreds did what the priest Ioiada had ordered. Each took his men, those who entered the service and those who dismounted on the Sabbath, and went to the priest Ioiada.
The priest handed over to the heads of hundreds of King David's spears and shields, which were in the temple depot.
The guards, each with their weapon in hand, ranged from the southern corner of the temple to the northern corner, in front of the altar and temple and around the king.
Then Jehoiada brought out the king's son, imposed on him the diadem and the insignia; he proclaimed him king and anointed him. The bystanders clapped their hands and exclaimed: "Long live the king!"
Atalia, hearing the clamor of the guards and the people, went to the multitude in the temple.
He looked: behold, the king was standing by the column according to the custom; the chiefs and trumpeters were around the king, while all the people of the country cheered and sounded the trumpets. Atalia tore her clothes and shouted: "Betrayal, betrayal!"
The priest Ioiada ordered the army chiefs: "Bring her out of the ranks and whoever follows her be killed by the sword." In fact, the priest had established that she was not killed in the temple of the Lord.
They put their hands on her and she reached the palace through the entrance of the Horses and there she was killed.
Ioiada concluded a covenant between the Lord, the king and the people, with which the latter undertook to be the Lord's people; there was also an alliance between the king and the people.
All the people of the village entered the temple of Baal and demolished it, shattering the altars and the images: they killed Mattan himself, priest of Baal, before the altars.
All the people of the country were celebrating; the city remained quiet.

Salmi 132(131),11.12.13-14.17-18.
The Lord has sworn to David
and will not retract his word:
“The fruit of your bowels
I will put on your throne!

If your children keep my covenant
and the precepts that I will teach them,
even their children forever
they will sit on your throne ”.

The Lord chose Zion,
he wanted it as his home:
“This is my rest forever;
I will live here, because I have desired it.

In Zion I will sprout the power of David,
I will prepare a lamp for my consecrated person.
I will cover his enemies with shame,
but the crown will shine on him ”.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 6,19-23.
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: «Do not accumulate treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves burglar and steal;
instead accumulate treasures in the sky, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
Because where your treasure is, your heart will also be.
The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore your eye is clear, your whole body will be in the light;
but if your eye is sick, your whole body will be dark. So if the light in you is darkness, how great the darkness will be! "
