Gospel of 22 July 2018

XVI Sunday in Ordinary Time

Book of Jeremiah 23,1-6.

“Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the flock of my pasture”. Oracle of the Lord.
Therefore says the Lord, the God of Israel, against the shepherds who must shepherd my people: “You have scattered my sheep, you have driven them out and you have not worried about them; behold I will deal with you and the wickedness of your actions. Oracle of the Lord.
I myself will gather the rest of my sheep from all the regions where I have let them drive out and bring them back to their pastures; they will be fruitful and multiply.
I will appoint shepherds over them who will feed them, so that they will no longer have to fear or be dismayed; not one of them will be missing ”. Oracle of the Lord.
“Behold, days will come - says the Lord - in which I will raise up a righteous sprout for David, who will reign as a true king and be wise and exercise the right and justice on earth.
In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will be safe in his home; this will be the name by which they will call him: Lord-our-justice.

Salmi 23(22),1-3a.3b-4.5.6.
The Lord is my Shepherd:
I lack nothing.
On grassy pastures it makes me rest
to calm waters it leads me.
Reassures me, guides me on the right path,
for the love of his name.

If I had to walk in a dark valley,
I wouldn't fear any harm, because you are with me.
Your staff is your bond
they give me security.

In front of me you prepare a canteen
under the eyes of my enemies;
sprinkle my head with oil.
My cup overflows.

Happiness and grace will be my companions
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
for very long years.

Letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians 2,13: 18-XNUMX.
But now, in Christ Jesus, you who once were far off have become near thanks to the blood of Christ.
In fact, he is our peace, the one who made the two of them a single people, breaking down the wall of separation that was a fragment, that is, enmity,
nullifying, through his flesh, the law made of prescriptions and decrees, to create in himself, of the two, one new man, making peace,
and to reconcile both with God in one body, by means of the cross, destroying enmity in himself.
He therefore came to announce peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were close.
Through him we can present ourselves, one and the other, to the Father in one Spirit.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Mark 6,30-34.
At that time, the apostles gathered around Jesus and told him everything they had done and taught.
And he said to them, "Come aside, to a lonely place, and take some rest." In fact, the crowd came and went and they no longer even had time to eat.
Then they left on the boat to a lonely place, on the sidelines.
But many saw them leave and understood, and from all the cities they began to rush there on foot and preceded them.
When he disembarked, he saw a large crowd and was moved by them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.
