Gospel of 23 June 2018

Saturday of the XNUMXth week of Ordinary Time

Second book of Chronicles 24,17-25.
After the death of Ioiadà, the leaders of Judah went to prostrate themselves before the king, who then listened to them.
They neglected the temple of the Lord God of their fathers, to venerate the sacred poles and idols. Because of their guilt God's anger was unleashed on Judah and Jerusalem.
The Lord sent prophets to them to return them to him. They communicated their message to them, but were not listened to.
Then the spirit of God came upon Zechariah, son of the priest Ioiadà, who rose up among the people and said: “God says: why do you transgress the commands of the Lord? This is why you are not successful; because you have forsaken the Lord, he also abandons you. "
But they conspired against him and by order of the king stoned him in the courtyard of the temple.
King Ioas did not remember the favor given to him by Joiadà the father of Zechariah, but killed his son, who dying said: "The Lord see him and ask for an account!".
At the beginning of the following year, the Aramean army marched against Ioas. They came to Judah and Jerusalem, exterminated all the chiefs among the people and sent the entire booty to the king of Damascus.
The army of the Arameans had come with few men, but the Lord placed a large army in their hands, because they had abandoned the Lord God of their fathers. The Arameans did justice to Ioas.
When they left, leaving him seriously ill, his ministers plotted a conspiracy against him to avenge the son of the priest Ioiadà and killed him in his bed. So he died and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

Salmi 89(88),4-5.29-30.31-32.33-34.
At one time, Lord, you said:
"I have made an alliance with my chosen one,
I have sworn to David my servant:
I will forever establish your offspring,
I will give you a throne that lasts for centuries.

I will always keep my grace for him,
my covenant will be faithful to him.
I will forever establish his offspring,
his throne like the days of heaven.

If your children abandon my law
and they will not follow my decrees,
if they violate my statutes
and they won't follow my commands,

I will punish their sin with the rod
and their guilt with scourges.
But I will not take away my grace
and to my loyalty I will never fail.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 6,24-34.
At that time Jesus said to his disciples:
«Nobody can serve two masters: either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will prefer the one and despise the other: you cannot serve God and mammon.
Therefore I say to you: for your life do not worry about what you will eat or drink, nor for your body, what you will wear; Is life not worth more than food and the body more than clothing?
Look at the birds of heaven: they do not sow, reap, nor amass in barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Do you not count more than them?
And who of you, however busy, can add just one hour to your life?
And why do you worry about the dress? Watch how the lilies of the field grow: they don't work and they don't spin.
Yet I tell you that not even Solomon, with all his glory, dressed like one of them.
Now if God dresses the grass of the field like this, which is there today and will be thrown into the oven tomorrow, will it not do much more for you, people of little faith?
So don't worry, saying: What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?
The pagans worry about all these things; your heavenly Father knows that you need it.
Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you in addition.
So do not worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will already have its concerns. His pain is enough for each day ».
