Gospel of 24 March 2019

SUNDAY 24 MARCH 2019
Mass of the Day
III SUNDAY OF LENT - YEAR C

Liturgical Color Purple
Antiphon
My eyes are always turned to the Lord,
because it frees my feet from the snare.
Turn to me and have mercy, Lord,
because I am poor and alone. (Ps 24,15-16)

?Or:

"When I manifest my holiness in you,
I will gather you from all over the earth;
I will sprinkle you with pure water
and you will be cleansed of all your filth
and I will give you a new spirit »says the Lord. (Ex 36,23-26)

Collection
Merciful God, source of all good,
you have proposed us to remedy sin
fasting, prayer and works of fraternal charity;
look at us who recognize our misery
and, since the burden of our sins oppresses us,
lift us your mercy.
For our Lord Jesus Christ ...

?Or:

Holy and merciful father,
that you never abandon your children and reveal your name to them,
break the hardness of mind and heart,
because we know how to welcome
with the simplicity of the children your teachings,
and we bear fruits of true and continuous conversion.
For our Lord Jesus Christ ...

First Reading
I-Am sent me to you.
From the book of Exodus
Ex 3,1-8a.13-15

In those days, while Moses was grazing the flock of Ietro, his father-in-law, priest of Midian, he led the cattle over the desert and arrived at the mount of God, the Horeb.

The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the middle of a bush. He looked and behold: the bush burned for the fire, but that bush was not consumed.

Moses thought, "I want to get closer to watching this great show: why doesn't the bush burn?" The Lord saw that he had come near to look; God shouted to him from the bush: "Moses, Moses!". He replied, "Here I am!" He said, "Don't come any further! Take off your sandals, because the place you are on is holy ground! ». And he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob." Then Moses covered his face because he was afraid to look towards God.

The Lord said: "I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt and I have heard his cry because of his superintendents: I know his sufferings. I went down to free him from the power of Egypt and to make him go up from this land to a beautiful and spacious land, to a land where milk and honey flow ».

Moses said to God, "Behold, I go to the Israelites and say to them," The God of your fathers sent me to you. " They will tell me: "What is your name?". And what will I answer them? »

God said to Moses, "I am who I am!" And he added, "So you will say to the Israelites:" I-am sent me to you. " God said to Moses again, "You will say to the Israelites:" The Lord, God of your fathers, God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob, sent me to you. " This is my name forever; this is the title with which I will be remembered from generation to generation ».

God's word

Responsorial Psalm
From Psalm 102 (103)
R. The Lord has mercy on his people.
Bless the Lord, my soul,
how blessed is his holy name in me.
Bless the Lord, my soul,
don't forget all its benefits. R.

He forgives all your faults,
heals all your infirmities,
save your life from the pit,
it surrounds you with kindness and mercy. R.

The Lord does right things,
defends the rights of all the oppressed.
He made Moses know his ways,
his works to the children of Israel. R.

Merciful and merciful is the Lord,
slow to anger and great in love.
Because how high the sky is on the earth,
so his mercy is powerful on those who fear him. R.

Second reading
The people's life with Moses in the desert was written for our warning.
From the first letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Corìnzi

I don't want you to ignore, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, all crossed the sea, all were baptized in relation to Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, all drank the same spiritual drink: they drank in fact from a spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was the Christ. But most of them were unwelcome to God and therefore were exterminated in the desert.

This happened as an example for us, because we did not want bad things, as they desired them.

Do not murmur, as some of them murmured, and they fell victim to the exterminator. All these things, however, happened to them as an example, and were written for our warning, of us for whom the end of time has come. So whoever thinks they are standing, take care not to fall.

God's word

Gospel acclamation
Praise and honor to you, Lord Jesus!

Get converted, says the Lord,
the kingdom of heaven is near. (Mt 4,17)

Praise and honor to you, Lord Jesus!

Gospel
If you do not convert, you will all perish in the same way.
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 13,1-9

At that time some presented themselves to report to Jesus the fact of those Galileans, whose blood Pilate had flowed along with that of their sacrifices. Taking the floor, Jesus said to them: «Do you believe that those Galileans were more sinners than all the Galileans, for having suffered such fate? No, I tell you, but if you don't get converted, you will all perish in the same way. Or do those eighteen people, on whom the tower of Sìloe collapsed and killed them, do you think were more guilty than all the inhabitants of Jerusalem? No, I say to you, but if you are not converted, you will all perish in the same way ».

This parable also said: «Someone had planted a fig tree in his vineyard and came looking for fruit, but he did not find any. Then he said to the vintner: “Here, I have been looking for fruits on this tree for three years, but I can't find any. So cut it out! Why must he use the land? ". But he replied: "Master, leave him again this year, until I have hoed around him and put manure. We will see if it will bear fruit for the future; if not, you will cut it "".

Word of the Lord

On offers
For this sacrifice of reconciliation
forgive our debts, O Father
and give us the strength to forgive our brothers.
For Christ our Lord.

Communion antiphon

says the Lord. (Lc13,5)

?Or:

The sparrow finds the house, the swallow the nest
where to place his little ones near your altars,
Lord of hosts, my king and my God.
Blessed are those who live in your home: always sing your praises. (Ps 83,4-5)

After communion
O God, who feeds us in this life
with the bread of heaven, a pledge of your glory,
make it manifest in our works
the reality present in the sacrament that we celebrate.
For Christ our Lord.
