Gospel of August 27, 2018

Monday of the XXI week of Ordinary Time holidays

Second letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Thessalonians 1,1-5.11b-12.
Paul, Silvano and Timòteo to the Church of the Thessalonians who is in God our Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ:
grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
We must always thank God for you, brothers, and it is quite right. Your faith in fact grows luxuriantly and your mutual charity abounds;
so we can boast of you in the Churches of God, for your firmness and for your faith in all the persecutions and tribulations you endure.
This is a sign of God's righteous judgment, which will proclaim you worthy of that kingdom of God, for which you now suffer.
Also for this reason we pray continually for you, so that our God may make you worthy of his call and bring to fulfillment, with his power, your every will for good and the work of your faith;
so that the name of our Lord Jesus in you and you in him may be glorified, according to the grace of our God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Salmi 96(95),1-2a.2b-3.4-5.
Sing a new song to the Lord,
sing to the Lord from all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, bless his name.

Proclaim his salvation day by day;
In the midst of peoples tell your glory,
to all nations tell your wonders.

Great is the Lord and worthy of all praise,
terrible above all gods.
All the gods of the nations are nothing,
but the Lord made the heavens.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 23,13-22.
At that time, Jesus spoke saying: “Woe to you, hypocritical scribes and Pharisees, who close the kingdom of heaven before men; why don't you go in,
and don't even let those who want to go in there.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, who travel the sea and the earth to make one proselyte and, obtaining it, make him twice the son of Gehenna.
Woe to you, blind guides, who say: If you swear by the temple it is not valid, but if you swear by the gold of the temple you are obliged.
Foolish and blind: what is greater, the gold or the temple that makes gold sacred?
And say again: If you swear by the altar it is not valid, but if you swear by the offering above it, you remain obliged.
Blind! What is greater, the offering or the altar that makes the offering sacred?
Well, whoever swears by the altar, swears by the altar and by what is on it;
and whoever swears by the temple, swears by the temple and by He who dwells in it.
And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by Him who is seated there. "
