Gospel of 27 June 2018

Wednesday of the XII week of Ordinary Time holidays

Second book of Kings 22,8-13.23,1-3.
In those days, the high priest Chelkia said to the scribe Safan: "I found the book of the law in the temple." Chelkia gave the book to Safan, who read it.
The scribe Safan then went to the king and told him: "Your servants paid the money found in the temple and gave it to the executors of the works, assigned to the temple."
Furthermore, the scribe Safan reported to the king: "The priest Chelkia gave me a book." Safan read it before the king.
Hearing the words of the book of the law, the king tore his clothes.
He commanded the priest Chelkia, Achikam son of Safan, Acbor son of Micah, the scribe Safan and Asaia minister of the king:
“Go, consult the Lord for me, for the people and for all Judah, about the words of this book now found; in fact great is the anger of the Lord, which ignited against us because our fathers did not listen to the words of this book and in their actions they were not inspired by what was written for us ".
By his order all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem gathered together with the king.
The king went up to the temple of the Lord together with all the men of Judah and with all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with the priests, with the prophets and with all the people, from the smallest to the largest. There he made the words of the covenant book found in the temple read in their presence.
The king, standing at the column, entered into an alliance before the Lord, committing himself to follow the Lord and observe his commands, laws and decrees with all his heart and soul, putting into practice the words of the covenant written in that book. All the people joined the alliance.

Psalms 119 (118), 33.34.35.36.37.40.
Lord, show me the way of your decrees
and I will follow it to the end.
Give me intelligence, because I observe your law
and keep it wholeheartedly.

Direct me on the path of your commands,
because in it is my joy.
Bend my heart towards your teachings
and not towards the thirst for profit.

Take my eyes away from vain things,
let me live on your way.
Behold, I desire your commandments;
for your justice let me live.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 7,15-20.
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: "Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inside they are ravenous wolves.
You will recognize them by their fruits. Do you pick grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?
So every good tree produces good fruit and every bad tree produces bad fruit;
a good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.
Any tree that does not produce good fruit is cut and thrown into the fire.
You can therefore recognize them by their fruits ».
