Gospel of 27 September 2018

Book of Ecclesiastes 1,2-11.
Vanity of vanities, says Qoèlet, vanity of vanities, all is vanity.
What use does man derive from all the trouble he struggles with in the sun?
A generation goes, a generation comes but the earth always remains the same.
The sun rises and the sun sets, hurries towards the place from where it will rise.
The wind blows at noon, then turns north wind; it turns and turns and over its turns the wind returns.
All rivers go to the sea, yet the sea is never full: once they reach their goal, the rivers resume their march.
All things are in labor and nobody could explain why. The eye is not satisfied with looking, nor is the ear satisfied with hearing.
What has been will be and what has been done will be rebuilt; there is nothing new under the sun.
Is there anything we can say about "Look, this is new"? Precisely this has already been in the centuries that preceded us.
There is no longer any memory of the ancients, but neither will those who will be remembered by those who come later.

Salmi 90(89),3-4.5-6.12-13.14.17.

like a waking shift in the night.

You annihilate them, you submerge them in your sleep;
they are like the grass that sprouts in the morning:
in the morning it blooms, sprouts,
in the evening it is mowed and dried.

Teach us to count our days
and we will come to the wisdom of the heart.
Turn, Lord; until?
Move with pity on your servants.

Fill us in the morning with your grace:
we will rejoice and rejoice for all our days.
May the goodness of the Lord our God be upon us:
strengthen the work of our hands for us.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke 9,7-9.
At that time, the tetrarch Herod heard about everything that was happening and did not know what to think, because some said: "John has risen from the dead",
others: "Elijah has appeared", and still others: "One of the ancient prophets has risen."
But Herod said: «I made John behead him; who is he then, of whom I hear such things? And he tried to see it.
