Gospel of 28 July 2018

Saturday of the XNUMXth week of Ordinary Time

Book of Jeremiah 7,1-11.
This is the word that was addressed by the Lord to Jeremiah:
“Stop at the door of the temple of the Lord and give this speech there saying: Hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who pass through these doors to bow down to the Lord.
Thus says the Lord of hosts, God of Israel: Improve your conduct and your actions and I will make you live in this place.
Therefore do not trust in the lying words of those who say: Temple of the Lord, temple of the Lord, temple of the Lord is this!
For if you truly amend your conduct and your actions, if you really pronounce right sentences between a man and his adversary;
if you do not oppress the stranger, the orphan and the widow, if you do not shed innocent blood in this place and if you do not follow other gods to your own misfortune,
I will make you live in this place, in the country that I gave to your fathers for a long time and forever.
But you trust in false words and this will not help you:
steal, kill, commit adultery, swear falsehood, burn incense in Baal, follow other gods you did not know.
Then come and present yourselves to my presence in this temple, which takes its name from me, and say: We are saved! to then complete all these abominations.
Is this temple named after me a den of thieves in your eyes? Here, too, I see all this ”.

Salmi 84(83),3.4.5-6a.8a.11.
My soul languishes and longs
the atria of the Lord.
My heart and my flesh
they rejoice in the living God.

Even the sparrow finds the house,
the swallow the nest, where to place its young,
at your altars, Lord of hosts,
my king and my god.

Blessed are those who live in your home:
always sing your praises!
Blessed is he who finds his strength in you;
its vigor grows along the way.

For me one day in your halls
is more than a thousand elsewhere,
stand on the threshold of the house of my God
it is better than to live in the tents of the wicked.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 13,24-30.
At that time, Jesus exposed a word to the crowd: «The kingdom of heaven can be compared to a man who has sown good seed in his field.
But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came, sowed weeds among the wheat and left.
Then when the harvest blossomed and bore fruit, there were also the tares.
Then the servants went to the master of the house and said to him: Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? So where does the tares come from?
And he answered them: An enemy has done this. And the servants said to him, "Do you want us to go and collect it?"
No, he replied, because it doesn't happen that, by picking the tares, you also uproot the wheat.
Let the one and the other grow together until the harvest and at the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers: First pluck the weeds and tie them in bundles to burn them; instead put the wheat in my barn ».
