Gospel of August 3, 2018

Friday of the XNUMXth week of Ordinary Time holidays

Book of Jeremiah 26,1-9.
At the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word was addressed to Jeremiah by the Lord.
The Lord said: “Go into the hall of the temple of the Lord and report to all the cities of Judah who come to worship in the temple of the Lord all the words that I have commanded you to proclaim to them; don't forget a word.
Perhaps they will listen to you and everyone will abandon their perverse conduct; in that case I will cancel all the evil that I thought of doing to them because of the wickedness of their actions.
You will therefore say to them: The Lord says: If you do not listen to me, if you do not walk according to the law that I have placed before you
and if you do not listen to the words of my prophets servants whom I have sent to you with constant concern, but which you have not listened to,
I will reduce this temple as that of Silo and make this city an example of curse for all the peoples of the earth ".
The priests, the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah saying these words in the temple of the Lord.
Now, when Jeremiah finished reporting what the Lord had commanded him to say to all the people, the priests and prophets arrested him saying: “You must die!
Why did you predict in the name of the Lord: Will this temple become like Silo and this city will be devastated, uninhabited? ”. All the people gathered against Jeremiah in the temple of the Lord.

Psalms 69 (68), 5.8-10.14.
More numerous than my boss's hair
they are those who hate me for no reason.
The enemies who slander me are powerful:
how much I have not stolen, should I return it?

For you I bear the insult
and shame covers my face;
I'm a stranger to my brothers,
a stranger to my mother's children.
Since zeal for your house devours me,
the insults of those who insult you fall on me.

But I raise my prayer to you,
Lord, in the time of benevolence;
for the greatness of your kindness, answer me,
for the faithfulness of your salvation, O God.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 13,54-58.
At that time, Jesus came to his homeland and taught in their synagogue and people were amazed and said: «Where does this wisdom and these miracles come from?
Is he not the carpenter's son? Isn't your mother named Maria and your brothers Giacomo, Giuseppe, Simone and Giuda?
And aren't all his sisters among us? So where do all these things come from? '
And they were scandalized because of him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not despised except in his homeland and in his house."
And he didn't do many miracles because of their unbelief.
