Gospel of 31 July 2018

Tuesday of the XNUMXth week of Ordinary Time

Book of Jeremiah 14,17-22.

“My eyes are dripping tears night and day, without ceasing, because from great calamity the daughter of my people has been hit, by a mortal wound.
If I go out into the open countryside, here are the pierced sword; if I travel the city, here are the horrors of hunger. The prophet and the priest also roam the country and don't know what to do.
Have you completely rejected Judah, or have you disgusted Zion? Why did you hit us, and there is no remedy for us? We waited for peace, but there is no good, the hour of salvation and here is terror!
Lord, we recognize our iniquity, the iniquity of our fathers: we have sinned against you.
But for your name do not abandon us, do not make the throne of your glory despicable. Remember! Don't break your alliance with us.
Perhaps among the vain idols of the nations there are those who make it rain? Or maybe the skies are reversing themselves? Aren't you, Lord our God? We trust you because you have done all these things. "

Psalms 79 (78), 8.9.11.13.
Don't blame our fathers for us,
soon meet your mercy,
because we are too unhappy.

Help us, God, our salvation,
for the glory of your name,
save us and forgive our sins
for the love of your name.

The moan of the prisoners comes up to you;
with the power of your hand
save the vowed to death.

And we, your people and the flock of your pasture,
we will thank you forever;
from age to age we will proclaim your praise.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 13,36-43.
Then Jesus left the crowd and entered the house; his disciples came up to him to say: "Explain to us the parable of the tares in the field."
And he answered, "He who sows the good seed is the Son of man.
The field is the world. The good seed are the children of the kingdom; the tares are the children of the evil one,
and the enemy who sowed it is the devil. The harvest represents the end of the world, and the reapers are the angels.
So as the tares are collected and burned in the fire, so will it be at the end of the world.
The Son of man will send his angels, who will gather all the scandals and all the workers of iniquity from his kingdom
and they will throw them into the burning furnace where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who has ears, hear! »
