Gospel of January 5, 2019

First letter of St. John the apostle 3,11-21.
Dear ones, this is the message that you have heard from the beginning: that we love one another.
Not like Cain, who was from the evil one and killed his brother. And why did he kill her? Because his works were evil, while his brother's works were right.
Don't be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you.
We know that we have gone from death to life because we love brothers. Whoever does not love remains in death.
Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in himself.
From this we have known love: He gave his life for us; therefore we too must lay down our lives for the brothers.
But if one has the riches of this world and seeing his brother in need closes his heart, how does God's love dwell in him?
Children, we do not love in words or in language, but in deeds and in truth.
From this we will know that we were born of the truth and before him we will reassure our heart
whatever it reproaches us for. God is greater than our heart and knows everything.
Dear ones, if our heart does not reproach us, we have faith in God.

Psalms 100 (99), 2.3.4.5.
Acclaim the Lord, all of you on earth,
serve the Lord in joy,
introduce yourself to him with exultation.

Recognize that the Lord is God;
he made us and we are his,
his people and flock of his pasture.

Go through its doors with hymns of grace,
his atria with songs of praise,
praise him, bless his name.

Good is the Lord,
eternal his mercy,
his loyalty for each generation.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to John 1,43: 51-XNUMX.
At that time, Jesus had decided to leave for Galilee; he met Filippo and said to him, "Follow me."
Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
Philip met Nathanael and said to him, "We have found the one of whom Moses wrote in the Law and the Prophets, Jesus, son of Joseph of Nazareth."
Nathanael exclaimed: "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip replied, "Come and see."
Meanwhile, Jesus, seeing Nathanael coming to meet him, said of him: "There really is an Israelite in whom there is no falsehood."
Natanaèle asked him: "How do you know me?" Jesus replied, "Before Philip called you, I saw you when you were under the fig tree."
Nathanael replied, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the king of Israel!"
Jesus replied, "Why did I tell you that I had seen you under the fig tree, do you think? You will see greater things than these! ».
Then he said to him, "Verily, verily, I say to you, you will see the open sky and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of man."
