Gospel of 5 July 2018

Thursday of the XIII week of Ordinary Time holidays

Book of Amos 7,10: 17-XNUMX.
In those days, Amasia, a priest of Bethel, sent to Jeroboam king of Israel to say: “Amos conspires against you in the midst of the house of Israel; the country can't stand its words,
for so says Amos: Geroboam will die of the sword and Israel will be led into exile away from his country. "
Amasia said to Amos: “Go away, seer, retreat to the land of Judah; there you will eat your bread and there you can prophesy,
but in Bethel do not prophesy anymore, because this is the sanctuary of the king and is the temple of the kingdom ”.
Amos replied to Amasia: “I was not a prophet, nor a son of a prophet; I was a shepherd and gatherer of sycamores;
The Lord took me after the cattle and the Lord said to me, Go, prophesy to my people Israel. "
Now listen to the word of the Lord: You say: Do not prophesy against Israel, nor preach against the house of Isaac.
Well, says the Lord: Your wife will prostitute herself in the city, your sons and daughters will fall by the sword, your land will be divided with the rope, you will die in unclean land and Israel will be deported to exile far from his land. "

Psalms 19 (18), 8.9.10.11.
The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshes the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is true,
it makes the simple wise.

The orders of the Lord are righteous,
they make the heart rejoice;
the commands of the Lord are clear,
give light to the eyes.

The fear of the Lord is pure, it always lasts;
the judgments of the Lord are all faithful and just
more precious than gold.
more precious than gold, much fine gold,

sweeter than honey and a dripping honeycomb.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 9,1-8.
At that time, boarded a boat, Jesus passed to the other shore and arrived in his city.
And behold, they brought him a paralytic lying on a bed. Jesus, having regard to their faith, said to the paralytic: "Courage, son, your sins are forgiven".
Then some scribes began to think: "This blasphemy."
But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said: «Why on earth do you think evil things in your heart?
So what is easier, say: Your sins are forgiven, or say: Get up and walk?
Now, so that you may know that the Son of man has the power on earth to forgive sins: get up, he then said to the paralytic, take your bed and go to your house ».
And he got up and went to his house.
At that sight, the crowd was seized with fear and gave glory to God who had given men such power.
