Gospel of 5 October 2018

Book of Job 38,1.12-21.40,3-5.
The Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind:
Ever since you lived, have you ever commanded in the morning and given the place to the dawn,
why does it grasp the edges of the earth and shake its wicked ones?
It transforms itself as seal clay and becomes colored like a dress.
Their light is taken from the wicked and the arm that rises to strike is broken.
Have you ever reached the source of the sea and have you walked in the bottom of the abyss?
Have you been shown the gates of death and have you seen the gates of the funeral shadow?
Have you considered the expanses of the earth? Say it, if you know all this!
Which way you go where the light lives and where the darkness dwells
why you lead them to their domain or at least you know how to send them to their home?
Of course, you know, because then you were born and the number of your days is very large!
Job turned to the Lord said:
Here, I am very young: what can I answer you? I put my hand over my mouth.
I spoke once, but I will not reply. I have spoken twice, but I will not continue.

Salmi 139(138),1-3.7-8.9-10.13-14ab.
Lord, you scrutinize me and you know me,
you know when I sit and when I get up.
Penetrate my thoughts from afar,
you look at me when I walk and when I rest.
All my ways are known to you.

Where to go away from your spirit,
where to escape from your presence?
If I go up to heaven, you are there,
if I go down to the underworld, there you are.

If I take the wings of the dawn
to live on the edge of the sea,
there also your hand guides me
and your right hand grabs me.

You are the one who created my bowels
and you woven me into my mother's breast.
I praise you, because you made me like a prodigy;
wonderful are your works,

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke 10,13-16.
At that time, Jesus said: «Woe to you, Corazin, Woe to you, Bethsaida! Because if in Tire and Sidon the miracles performed among you had been accomplished, they would have long since converted by dressing the sack and covering themselves with ashes.
Therefore in the judgment Tire and Sidon will be treated less harshly than you.
And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to heaven? To the underworld you will have fallen!
Whoever listens to you listens to me, whoever despises you scorns me. And whoever despises me despises the one who sent me. "
