Gospel of 6 June 2018

Wednesday of the XNUMXth week of Ordinary Time

Second letter of Saint Paul the apostle to Timothy 1,1-3.6-12.
Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, to announce the promise of life in Christ Jesus,
to the beloved son Timothy: grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
I thank God, that I serve with pure conscience like my ancestors, always remembering you in my prayers, night and day;
For this reason, I remind you to revive the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands.
In fact, God did not give us a spirit of shyness, but of strength, love and wisdom.
So do not be ashamed of the testimony to be given to our Lord, nor to me, who are in prison for him; but you too suffer together with me for the gospel, helped by the strength of God.
In fact, he saved us and called us with a holy vocation, not according to our works, but according to his purpose and his grace; grace that has been given to us in Christ Jesus from eternity,
but it was revealed only now with the appearance of our savior Christ Jesus, who conquered death and made life and immortality shine through the gospel,
of which I was made herald, apostle and teacher.
This is the cause of the evils I suffer, but I am not ashamed of it: I know who I believed and I am convinced that he is able to keep my deposit until that day.

Salmi 123(122),1-2a.2bcd.
I raise my eyes to you,
to you who live in the skies.
Here, like the eyes of the servants

at the hand of their masters;
like the eyes of the slave,
at the hand of his mistress,

so our eyes
are turned to the Lord our God,
as long as you have mercy on us.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Mark 12,18-27.
At that time, Sadducees came to Jesus, who say there is no resurrection, and questioned him saying:
«Master, Moses has left us written that if one's brother dies and leaves his wife childless, the brother takes his wife to give descendants to his brother.
There were seven brothers: the first married and died without leaving descendants;
then the second took it, but died without leaving descendants; and the third equally,
and none of the seven left offspring. Finally, after all, the woman also died.
In the resurrection, when will they rise, to whom will the woman belong? Because seven had her as a wife. "
Jesus answered them, "Are you not mistaken, since you do not know the Scriptures, nor the power of God?
When they rise from the dead, in fact, they will not take a wife or husband, but they will be like angels in heaven.
Regarding the dead who must rise again, have you not read in the book of Moses, about the bush, how God spoke to him saying: I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and Jacob?
He is not a God of the dead but of the living! You are in great error ».
