Gospel of 6 September 2018

First letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians 3,18-23.
Brothers, no one should delude himself.
If anyone among you believes himself to be a wise man in this world, make himself a fool to become wise;
for the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. It is written in fact: He takes the wise by their cunning.
And again: The Lord knows that the designs of the wise are in vain.
So let no one put his glory in men, because everything is yours:
Paolo, Apollo, Cefa, the world, life, death, the present, the future: everything is yours!
But you are of Christ and Christ is of God.

Salmi 24(23),1-2.3-4ab.5-6.
Of the Lord is the earth and what it contains,
the universe and its inhabitants.
It is he who founded it on the seas,
and on the rivers he established it.

Who will ascend the mountain of the Lord,
who will stay in his holy place?
Who has innocent hands and pure heart,
who does not pronounce a lie.

He will get blessing from the Lord,
justice from God his salvation.
Here is the generation that seeks it,
who seeks your face, God of Jacob.

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke 5,1-11.
At that time, while he stood at the lake of Genèsaret
and the crowd crowded around him to hear the word of God, Jesus saw two boats moored on the shore. The fishermen had come down and washed the nets.
He got into a boat, which belonged to Simone, and asked him to move slightly off the ground. Sitting down, he started to teach the crowds from the boat.
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simone, "Take off and drop your fishing nets."
Simone replied: «Master, we have worked hard all night and we have not taken anything; but on your word I will throw the nets ».
And having done so, they caught a huge amount of fish and the nets broke.
Then they motioned to the companions of the other boat, who came to help them. They came and filled both boats to the point where they almost sank.
Upon seeing this, Simon Peter threw himself on Jesus' knees, saying: "Lord, turn away from me who am a sinner."
In fact, great amazement had taken him and all those who were together with him for the fishing they had done;
so too did James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were Simon's partners. Jesus said to Simon: «Don't be afraid; from now on you will be catching men ».
Pulling the boats ashore, they left everything and followed him.
