Gospel of 9 September 2018

Book of Isaiah 35,4-7a.
Tell the lost of heart: "Courage! Fear not; here is your God, vengeance comes, the divine reward. He comes to save you. "
Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf will open.
Then the lame will jump like a deer, the tongue of the silent will scream with joy, because waters will flow in the desert, streams will flow in the steppe.
The scorched earth will become a swamp, the parched soil will turn into water sources. The places where jackals lay will become reeds and rushes.

Salmi 146(145),7.8-9a.9bc-10.
The Lord is faithful forever,
does justice to the oppressed,
gives bread to the hungry.

The Lord frees prisoners.
The Lord restores sight to the blind,
the Lord raises up those who have fallen,
the Lord loves the righteous,

the Lord protects the stranger.
He supports the orphan and the widow,
but it upsets the ways of the wicked.
The Lord reigns forever,

your God, or Zion, for each generation.

Letter of Saint James 2,1-5.
My brothers, do not mix your faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, Lord of glory, with personal favoritism.
Suppose someone with a gold ring on their finger, beautifully dressed, enters your meeting and a poor man with a well-worn suit also enters.
If you look at the one who is beautifully dressed and say to him: "You sit here comfortably", and to the poor you say: "You stand up there", or: "Sit here at the foot of my stool",
do you not make preferences in yourselves and are you not judges of perverse judgments?
Listen, my dear brothers: has not God chosen the poor in the world to make them rich with the faith and heirs of the kingdom he promised to those who love him?

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Mark 7,31-37.
Returning from the region of Tire, he passed through Sidon, heading towards the sea of Galilee in the heart of the Decàpoli.
And they brought him a deaf mute, begging him to lay his hand on him.
And taking him aside from the crowd, he put his fingers in his ears and touched his tongue with saliva;
looking then towards the sky, he sighed and said: "Effatà" that is: "Open up!"
And immediately his ears opened, the knot of his tongue was loosened and he spoke correctly.
And he commanded them not to tell anyone. But the more he recommended it, the more they talked about it
and, full of amazement, they said: «He did everything well; it makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak! "
