Gospel of January 13, 2021 with the comment of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the letter to the Jews
Heb 2,14-18

Brothers, since children have blood and flesh in common, Christ too has become a sharer in it, in order to reduce to impotence through death the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and thus free those who, for fear of death, they were subject to lifelong slavery.

In fact, he does not take care of the angels, but of Abraham's lineage. Therefore he had to make himself similar to his brothers in all, to become a merciful and trustworthy high priest in things concerning God, in order to atone for the sins of the people. In fact, precisely because he has been tested and suffered personally, he is able to come to the aid of those who undergo the test.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Mark
Mc 1,29-39

At that time, Jesus, having left the synagogue, immediately went to the house of Simon and Andrew, in the company of James and John. Simone's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever and they immediately told him about her. He approached and made her stand up taking her by the hand; the fever left her and she served them.

When evening came, after sunset, they brought him all the sick and possessed. The whole city was gathered in front of the door. He healed many who were suffering from various diseases and cast out many demons; but he did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew him.
Early in the morning he got up when it was still dark and, having gone out, he withdrew to a deserted place, and prayed there. But Simon and those who were with him set out on his trail. They found him and said to him: "Everyone is looking for you!" He said to them: “Let's go elsewhere, to the neighboring villages, so that I can preach there too; for this in fact I have come! ».
And he went throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
St. Peter used to say: 'It is like a ferocious lion, which revolves around us'. It is so. 'But, Father, you are a bit ancient! It scares us with these things… '. No, not me! It is the Gospel! And these aren't lies - it's the Word of the Lord! We ask the Lord for the grace to take these things seriously. He came to fight for our salvation. He has overcome the devil! Please don't do business with the devil! He tries to go home, to take possession of us ... Do not relativize, be vigilant! And always with Jesus! (Santa Marta, 11 October 2013)
