Gospel of January 20, 2021 with the comment of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the letter to the Jews
Heb 7,1-3.15-17

Brothers, Melchìsedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, went to meet Abraham as he returned from having defeated the kings and blessed him; to him Abraham gave the tithe of everything.

First of all, his name means "king of justice"; then he is also king of Salem, that is "king of peace". He, without father, without mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, made similar to the Son of God, remains a priest forever.

[Now,] arises, in the likeness of Melchisedek, a different priest, who has not become such according to a law prescribed by men, but by the power of an indestructible life. In fact, this testimony is given to him:
«You are a priest forever
according to the order of Melchìsedek ».

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Mark
Mc 3,1-6

At that time, Jesus entered the synagogue again. There was a man there who had a paralyzed hand, and they were to see if he healed him on the Sabbath, to accuse him.

He said to the man who had a paralyzed hand, "Get up, come here in the middle!" Then he asked them: "Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save a life or to kill it?" But they were silent. And looking around them with indignation, saddened by the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man: "Hold out your hand!" He held it out and his hand was healed.

And the Pharisees immediately went out with the Herodians and took counsel against him to make him die.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
Hope is a gift, it is a gift of the Holy Spirit and for this Paul will say: 'Never disappoints'. Hope never disappoints, why? Because it is a gift that the Holy Spirit has given us. But Paul tells us that hope has a name. Hope is Jesus. Jesus, hope, does everything again. It is a constant miracle. Not only did he do miracles of healing, many things: those were only signs, signs of what he is doing now, in the Church. The miracle of redoing everything: what he does in my life, in your life, in our life. Redo. And what He does again is precisely the reason for our hope. It is Christ who remakes all things more marvelously than Creation, is the reason for our hope. And this hope does not disappoint, because He is faithful. He cannot deny himself. This is the virtue of hope. (Santa Marta - 9 September 2013
