READING OF THE DAY
From the letter to the Jews
Heb 7,25 - 8,6

Brothers, Christ can perfectly save those who draw near to God through him: in fact, he is always alive to intercede on their behalf.

This was the high priest we needed: holy, innocent, spotless, separated from sinners and elevated above the heavens. He does not need, like the high priests, to offer sacrifices every day, first for his own sins and then for those of the people: he did it once and for all, offering himself. For the Law constitutes high priests men subject to weakness; but the word of the oath, posterior to the Law, makes the Son a priest, made perfect forever.

The main point of the things we are saying is this: we have such a great high priest who has sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, minister of the sanctuary and of the true tent, which the Lord, and not a man, has built .

In fact, every high priest is constituted to offer gifts and sacrifices: hence the need for Jesus too to have something to offer. If he were on earth, he would not even be a priest, since there are those who offer gifts according to the Law. These offer a cult that is the image and shadow of the celestial realities, according to what was declared by God to Moses, when he was about to build the tent: "Look - he said - to do everything according to the model that was shown to you on the mountain".
Now, however, he has had a ministry that is all the more excellent the better the covenant he mediates, because it is founded on better promises.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Mark
Mc 3,7-12

At that time, Jesus with his disciples withdrew to the sea and a large crowd from Galilee followed him. From Judea and Jerusalem, from Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from the parts of Tire and Sidon, a great crowd, hearing what he was doing, came to him.
Then he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him, because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him. In fact, he had healed many, so that those who had some evil threw themselves on him to touch him.
The impure spirits, when they saw him, fell at his feet and cried out: "You are the Son of God!" But he strictly ordered them not to reveal who he was.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
People were looking for Him: people had their eyes fixed on Him and He had His eyes fixed on people. And this is the peculiarity of Jesus' gaze. Jesus does not standardize people: Jesus looks at everyone. Look at all of us, but look at each of us. Look at our big problems or our great joys, and also look at the little things about us. Because it is close. But we are not afraid! We run along this road, but always fix our gaze on Jesus. And we will have this beautiful surprise: Jesus himself has fixed his gaze on me.
